Paper picking, by nature, is subject to human inaccuracy, but by switching to voice recognition software, distributors can dramatically reduce the number of picking errors by 80 percent to 90 percent over time. Studies show that a picking accuracy rate of 99.9 percent is usually achieved with voice picking software.
Before every product retrieval the order picker is instructed by a computer-controlled voice via a headset to go to the storage position of a particular product. After arriving, the picker verbally relays the storage position's number into their microphone to ensure accuracy. The system will then instruct the picker to select the number of items to be picked. After each item, the user will relay how many items he has picked and the system will count down until the task is complete.
