Vacuums and HVAC systems can help improve a buildings indoor air quality. But the road to improving IAQ actually starts outside at the door. Proper entrance matting can prevent up to 80 percent of dust, dirt and soil from entering the building. Once tracked in, dirt and dust will become airborne, creating problems for building occupants.
To prevent poor IAQ, a matting system should consist of 15 feet of a combination of outdoor scraper mats, scraper/wiper mats and indoor wiper mats to ensure that each foot will make contact with the system at least three times.
Matting should also be cleaned regularly to prevent it from becoming a source of contaminants.
