Crothall Healthcare announced that its environmental services (EVS) team at Providence Saint John’s Health Center has been recognized in Business Intelligence Group’s (BIG) 2026 Sustainability Awards in the Sustainability Initiative of the Year category. These annual awards recognize organizations, products, teams, and individuals that are turning sustainability commitments into real, measurable results.
The award recognizes the work of Providence Saint John’s EVS team, provided by Crothall Healthcare, for leadership in environmental stewardship in healthcare operations. By embedding sustainable practices into everyday workflows, the team has implemented innovative waste diversion programs, transitioned to more environmentally responsible products, increased staff engagement, and maintained exceptional compliance standards. These efforts have delivered measurable environmental results while creating a model for healthcare sustainability that can be replicated nationwide.
“This recognition reflects the dedication of our environmental services team and the focus on sustainability across Providence Saint John’s,” says Michael Ricks, Chief Executive, Providence LA-Coastal Service Area and Providence Saint John’s Health Center. “We are proud of the work that earned this recognition and grateful to everyone who contributed to it.”
The award-winning initiative focused on practical, high-impact solutions that produced measurable results. Key efforts included transitioning to battery-free hand sanitizer dispensers, expanding recycling and medical device recovery programs, increasing the use of green-certified cleaning products, and engaging associates through education and training to strengthen adoption of sustainable practices.
“We are always striving to do what is best for our patients and hospital partners, and that includes making meaningful investments in sustainability,” shares Mike Villani, CEO of Crothall Healthcare. “I am incredibly proud of our teams and grateful to Providence Saint John’s Health Center for their partnership and commitment to sustainability. Rather than treating sustainability as a standalone initiative, our teams have woven environmentally responsible practices into every aspect of our daily operations, proving that operational excellence and environmental responsibility can go hand-in-hand."
