Data Centers Open Opportunities for Jan/San

Data centers are becoming a new frontier for innovation in commercial cleaning. Growing artificial intelligence (AI) usage is driving the demand for data centers, leading to the 4,998 U.S. data center facilities present as of August 2026. As AI becomes intentionally integrated into cleaning operations, as shared by 42 percent of building service contractors (BSCs) in Contracting Profits' 2026 Market Study, these buildings will present a market opportunity for jan/san vendors.

Ready-to-use (RTU) chemical wipes remain an effective product to address sanitation and disinfecting needs. These tools are easily trainable and are time-efficient, mitigating contamination risks and minimizing operational disruptions. However, wipes are not a one-size-fits-all solution. Wipe types should align with facility needs and surface compatibility.

Data centers contain sensitive electronic equipment and require a wipe that can remove contaminants without causing electrostatic damage. According to PicoWipe, common chemical wipes and cleaning cloths contain fiber materials that degrade after use and can send an electrical discharge after it makes contact. When the wrong wipe is used on electrical equipment, this electrostatic discharge can attract additional airborne particles as well as cause damage.

Cleaning and sanitizing electronics is an important facet of cleaning systems outside of data centers. Featured in most facilities—schools, offices, healthcare, and more—these tools, especially when shared, are a source of infections. In fact, 55 percent of people list screens as the most important items to be regularly cleaned and disinfected in a workplace, as affirmed by CloroxPro's 2024 Clean Index Report. 

From data centers to modern-day operational services, wipes are forecasted to grow from $24.1 billion in 2026 to $39.5 billion in 2034. Part of this momentum is due to product innovation as jan/san manufacturers continue to meet evolving end-user needs.
