Cleaning: Business & Industry

When implementing a recycling program, it’s important for facilities to place clearly marked recycling collection bins and containers near waste receptacles to help prevent tenants from throwing away recyclable items. This helps reduce any confusion about where trash should be disposed and what items can be recycled.
In office settings, for example, each desk or workstation should be outfitted with a small or medium-sized paper recycling bin next to the trash receptacle, while larger collection bins should be placed near copy machines, printers or in mail rooms and break rooms.
Furthermore, a larger consolidation recycling bin for items like aluminum cans and plastic bottles should be placed in a central location that is accessible for all employees and can be sorted and placed appropriately by cleaning personnel at the end of the day.
A recycling program can only be successful if building occupants participate. Proper placement of recycling bins and containers can go a long way in making it easy to recycle.
