Green friendly cleaning has many benefits including being a healthier place to work. This one factor can improve productivity (often a hidden cost of poor cleaning) due to less absenteeism due to unnecessary illnesses. A professional staff of cleaning experts who not only understand the importance of green friendly cleaning but also know how to perform the tasks in an efficient, effective manner can radically impact the bottom line during a time of cutbacks and budget cuts. That bottom line includes the annual costs of cleaning as well as fewer lost work days.

Other effects include staff and tenant morale as people do not cringe when they go into a poorly maintained restroom that oftentimes will have urine odors, slippery floors, soiled walls and a feeling of just being plain dirty. Such a restroom does not feel safe or welcome. Tenants have even boasted that they had to wait until they got home before using the restroom because they were so offended at the condition of the facility. Of course, if budgets are tight, a restroom cleaned at 6 p.m. on Monday evening may not be very inviting at 3:00 p.m. the next day unless there has been day porter service.

The overall appearance of the restroom is also impacted by its location and use. I high traffic, public restroom will require much more effort to maintain and stock than an isolated, low traffic facility for obvious reasons.

The bottom line is that a green friendly facility reduces viral and pathogenic transmission, reduces exposure to VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) and has the potential of improving performance and productivity.

Your comments and questions are always welcome. I hope to hear from you soon. Until then, keep it clean…
