Spectra254, a provider of UVC light disinfection solutions, announced that it has been recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Anti-Microbial Division as a certified producer of anti-microbial devices, under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), a U.S. federal law that determines pesticide regulation in order to protect applicators, consumers, and the environment.

The EPA’s Anti-Microbial Division is responsible for all devices that disinfect, sanitize, reduce, or mitigate growth or development of microbiological organisms. These include “ultraviolet light systems made to kill, inactivate, entrap, or suppress the growth of fungi, bacteria, or viruses in various sites,” according to the EPA’s guidelines.

“The EPA’s Determination Letter for Spectra254’s UVC light antimicrobial devices under FIFRA establishes Spectra254 as the only UVC light decontamination solutions provider to be determined by the EPA in this way,” said Dennis Boyle, Spectra254’s President. “The EPA’s recognition results from a compliance and registration process we undertook with the government that began with registering Spectra254 and then registering our manufacturing facility itself. The EPA Determination Letter recognizes Spectra254’s commitment to providing devices that safely and effectively eliminate deadly pathogens and super bugs.”

According to FIFRA, “pesticide” devices, which include all anti-microbial UVC decontamination devices, may only be manufactured in a registered manufacturing establishment. In addition, these devices are regulated to ensure that “false or misleading claims” cannot be made about the efficacy of devices. The EPA registration and FIFRA regulations require manufacturers to provide supporting scientific data to validate efficacy claims.

In accordance with the EPA’s regulations and to maintain its certification, Spectra254 must agree to produce its devices in an EPA registered FIFRA device producing establishment and make no efficacy claims without substantiating scientific data with the EPA.

Spectra254’s manufacturing facility is an EPA-certified Pesticide Device Producing Establishment, #092017-CT-00. Full product line details are available at www.spectra254.com, by calling 203-796-5315 direct or through emailing sales@spectra254.com.
