A high ranking Filipino politician is asking his nation's government to provide hazard pay to private janitors, maintenance workers and security guards who help protect hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Senate President Pro Temper Ralph Recto says it is vital that these "unheralded" workers get extra pay from the government because of the work they are doing to to keep hospitals clean, reports UNTV News & Rescue. Recto says those contracted as janitors and sanitation workers at hospitals are "virus killers" who protect "one scrub, one mop, one wipe at a time."
Recto believes that hospitals would collapse if they didn't have housekeepers, janitors and other building staff doing their jobs. Despite this, he says these workers are only given minimum pay.
