The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recommended that employers take the necessary precautions to protect workers from the effects of 1-bromopropane (1-BP) exposure, say ISSA reports.
1-BP is a chemical solution commonly used in degreasing, dry cleaning, spray adhesives, and aerosol solvents. Prolonged exposure to 1-BP has been associated with damage to the nervous system. OSHA recommends that employers substitute 1-BP with a less-toxic substance, install proper ventilation systems, and limit the amount of time workers are exposed to the chemical.
