A new safety program, launched by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), aims to assist commercial cleaning executives in reducing workplace injuries and related absences.
The Safety Champions Program (SCP) is a tiered approach to implementing a scalable safety and health program. This voluntary program implements OSHA’s recommended practices and is designed along three phases—Introductory, Intermediate, and Advanced. Each phase provides a framework for leadership to formulate a comprehensive plan to benefit operational efficiency and worker well-being.
Government employees can offer further support throughout the planning process by addressing concerns, reviewing current documentation, and sharing feedback as needed. Creating these plans is essential as frontline staff face significant workplace hazards—including repetitive movements, chemical exposures, and slips and falls. Management tasked with managing labor shortages amid rising operational costs can consider joining SCP for preventative practices that support staff safety.
