A measles outbreak in Utah is being connected to cases that begin in boarding Utah.

The Southwest Utah Public Health Department is working with officials in Arizona to contain the spread of measles, reports The Arizona Republic.

A total of 78 measles cases were reported between Arizona's Mohave County and Utah's Washington County as of Sept. 25.

A retired public health leader in Phoenix tells The Arizona Republic that a rise in measles cases was inevitable due to low immunization rates in Colorado City, Arizona. However, the expert believes the geographic isolation of the area could prevent the outbreak from spreading much further.

Measles is highly contagious and can be fatal. It is airborne and can impact people of any age and cause issues such as deafness, blindness, and brain inflammation.
