The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) led two events May 20-21 for member companies to engage congressional offices about the importance of delivering innovative products and chemistries.
More than one hundred people attended the Congressional Chemistry Caucus Reception, “Innovative Chemistries for a Cleaner America,” in the Rayburn House Office Building, where members showcased groundbreaking products and chemistries used in homes, schools, workplaces, and healthcare settings that help Americans live cleaner, healthier live.
“The focus is helping everyone understand the value of chemistry in our daily lives,” said Congressman John Moolenaar (R-MI), who co-chairs the Chemistry Caucus with Congressman Sanford Bishop Jr. (D-GA).
The ACI 2025 Congressional Fly-In took place the next day, where ACI’s advocates lobbied for support on targeted legislative changes to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and retaining the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice program within the Agency’s jurisdiction. These two initiatives will ensure businesses can continue to innovate and formulate products for consumers across the country.
“We aim to work with Congress on targeted changes to TSCA to maintain American leadership in global chemical innovation,” said Blake Nanney, ACI, Director, Government Affairs. “We must foster greater science-based, speed-to-market and predictability for the ability of new cleaning products that help everyday American consumers.”
“Safer Choice is also one of those uniquely impactful federal programs that help both consumers and businesses while driving innovation,” Nanney added. “It’s a strong example of how businesses and the government can collaborate to create meaningful market benefits for American consumers and businesses at the same time.”
ACI members engaged thirteen congressional offices on these important issues. Fly-in participants included leading companies and brands from across the cleaning product supply chain:
