Only two weeks away, it’s time to start planning for Campus Sustainability month. Held every October, the international event celebrates sustainable practices in higher education.
There are many ways in which universities and colleges can participate in the month-long celebration, according to The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (aashe).
“Campus Sustainability Month activities can include announcements of new sustainability commitments, award ceremonies, tree plantings, teach-ins, conferences, nature walks, green product showcases, sustainability competitions, power plant tours or information fairs,” says the asshe website.
In addition to forming their own events, universities and colleges can participate in a number of engagement opportunities structured throughout the month. These activities include:
- Project Green Challenge, Oct. 1 to Oct. 30
- Energy Efficiency Day, Oct. 2
- People’s EcoChallenge, Oct. 2 to 23
- Global Climate Change Week, Oct. 14 to 20
- World Food Day, Oct. 16
