The American Ladder Institute (ALI) is elevating its March 2026 programming to commemorate the 10th anniversary of its annual National Ladder Safety Month initiative. Taking it to the next level, the safety campaign will focus on five key topics that impact frontline cleaning staff across the commercial cleaning industry—Choosing the Right Ladder; Check Before You Climb; Set It Up Safely; Climb Safely, Work Safely; and Safe Steps with Stepstools. The programming will highlight hazards cleaning teams face when utilizing ladders and how to reduce workplace ladder injuries, CleanLink shares.
According to the ALI’s 2024 Ladder Safety Training and Citations Survey, 33 percent of ladder injuries resulted in severe or fatal outcomes. In fact, ladder safety is one of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) top ten citations reported. Compliance begins with employee buy-in, as 63 percent of survey respondents believe that violations result from human error, NHS Health asserts.
To minimize labor absences resulting from ladder-related injuries, commercial cleaning executives can turn to tools that minimize risks. High access cleaning tools—telescopic poles, ergonomic dusters, etc.—allow workers to access high surfaces without leaving the ground, minimizing ladder usage and fall risks, Unger says. When a ladder is needed, selecting the properly sized ladder for the right job, securing it at the appropriate angle against a wall (unless it is a stepladder), and using two hands when climbing will safeguard cleaning staff in action, Peabody Insurance adds. Training is the most essential tool, with resources and programming necessary to ensure the safety and well-being of all cleaning teams, MCS Industrial Supply Co. affirms.
