An American Cleaning Institute (ACI) survey, conducted by Wakefield Research, revealed U.S. cleaning beliefs and behaviors. To identify modern misconceptions and promote hygienic habits, the poll addressed adults nationwide. The results demonstrate that consistent cleaning routines paired with annual spring (deep) cleans can set facilities up for success.

Overall, less than half of respondents are motivated to clean to foster health. Although not the primary reason to clean, Americans recognize the importance of cleaning for general well-being. While hygienic environments support physical health, they can also encourage mental health. In fact, 72 percent of those surveyed shared they feel more relaxed when spaces are clean and organized than they do after a massage.

The research also found that a factor often overlooked in daily cleaning routines is frequency. Although 80 percent of Americans shared their spring-cleaning plans, 40 percent would be embarrassed to say when they cleaned their toilet last. Since 80 percent of infections are transferred through surface contact, this result reiterates the importance of cleaning touch points daily to reduce the risk of contamination.
