Starting next year, New York City's long-awaited public toilets will finally be in service.
Workers are putting the finishing touches on the first public toilet in Madison Square Park.
The self-cleaning, wheelchair-accessible restroom will be serviced twice a day.
It will cost customers 25 cents for 15 minutes of use.
New Yorkers who spoke with NY1 have mixed feelings about the toilets.
Reporter: Do you think you would use such a bathroom?
New Yorker 1: No.
New Yorker 2: I might, I have a baby.
New Yorker 1: I have a baby, too, and still no.
"I think it is an excellent idea especially since it is by the
playground, so if I have my two little ones, I can run into the
bathroom. I'll definitely pay. I'd pay 50 cents," added another New
Yorker.
"Very quickly, if it was an emergency, yes I would," added another.
"I think it is a great idea and I would always use it because I
have been waiting for this to happen for a long time," added another.
The plan is to have at least 20 public toilets around the city by the end of 2009.
