Disinfectants listed on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) List N are capable of fighting newer strains of the COVID-19, according to a Tweet sent out last week by the agency's official Twitter account.

The EPA created List N in 2020 to give the public a list of products expected to fight SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Different disinfectants have been added to the list as they continue to qualify. According to the EPA, disinfectants can be added to the list by:

- Passing a test against SARS-CoV-2

- Demonstrating efficacy against a different coronavirus that is similar to SARS-CoV-2 or against a pathogen that is harder to kill than SARS-CoV-2

"Genetic changes to the virus do not impact efficacy of disinfectants," said the EPA in the tweet.

As of last week, a total of 525 disinfectants have been approved to be on List N.
