The Women Leading Custodial Services

Finding a path to leadership is not always easy; especially for women who must push even harder to get to the top of any industry. Custodial services may have a majority female labor force, but women are still not predominantly found in leadership positions.  

Facility Cleaning Decisions reached out to four female leaders to learn about how they got started in the industry, their journeys to premium roles, and tips they have for the next generation of female leadership in custodial services. 

These women have carved out spaces as leaders of operations in large facilities, from universities to entire school districts. They know the determination, empathy, and grit it takes to reach the top, and they want to bring their fellow women with them.  

The women featured are: 

• Melissa Selinas, MBA, PHR, SHRM-CP, Custodial Director of Rice University 

• Sharon Boyd, MA, RBSM, CPT, Supervisor of Custodial Services of Newport News Public Schools

• Ada Baldwin, Director of Environmental Services, North Carolina State University 

• Aneta Mistak, Director of Operations, Township High School District 214
