Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the second busiest airport in Florida and the 13th-busiest airport in the United States. So when San Jose, California-based Flagship Facility Services,  was awarded the cleaning contract for MCO, Director of Operations Kevin Barton knew it was essential to find the right equipment for vacuuming and cleaning the 4.2-million-square-foot facility’s carpets and flooring.

“Airports are one of our specialties,” says Barton, whose company services airports across the country, including Los
Angeles International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport.

With 20 years of airport cleaning experience under his belt, Barton has purchased a variety of powered floor care equipment over the years. And he favors one particular type to get the job done: stand-on machines that cover large, open areas quickly and maneuver with ease in the midst of densely populated buildings operating 24/7.

The stand-on equipment is not only fast and agile, but it also provides operators with better visibility compared to ride-on machines — an important safety consideration, especially in an airport.
