The James Harris Sr. Industry Service Award is presented in recognition of long-term service to the Building Service Contractor Association International (BSCAI) by a company not engaged in building service contracting. This year’s recipient is Spartan Chemical Company of Maumee, Ohio.
Spartan Chemical has been developing and manufacturing cleaning and chemical products since 1956. With an emphasis on sustainability, cost effective production, and education, Spartan has been a long-time leader in the industry. In addition to building service contractors (BSC), they work with healthcare, education, hospitality, food service and processing, and industrial markets.
“Spartan Chemical and our distributor network are proud to partner with the BSCAI,” says Jerred Attanasio, The Director of Building Service Contractors Division at Spartan. “We are committed to understanding the daily challenges and long-term goals of building service contractors.”
The Ohio-based company does much more than produce chemicals and solutions; they have a team of certified experts that can help bring BSCs to the next level. Their programs offer training and management tools that can grow businesses, simplify processes, and cut inefficient costs. While they have grown to span five continents, Spartan Chemical maintains a local focus and tells BSCs, “Your top priorities are our top priority.”
Attanasio notes their trademarked BSC program, saying, “Our BSC Check program integrates training, custodial management software, and Spartan’s world-class chemicals—all to help building service contractors solve their most critical business needs.”
This specialized program combines Spartan Chemical’s CleanCheck Training System and CompuClean programs, and tailors it to BSCs. CleanCheck trains employees to maintain a clean and compliant facility, and CompuClean is a facility management software.
Additionally, they host an annual in-person BSC training seminar in Maumee, Ohio, called Spartan Training Camp. At this invite-only event, BSCs gain critical knowledge and experience that they can leverage to be more competitive in the industry. Spartan Training Camp covers different topics and certifications each year, attracting return attendees. Most recently, they featured food processing opportunities, utilizing AI, rental technology, and discussing the overall state of the industry.
Education is a core value at Spartan. They are the proud sponsor of the BSCAI Stephen H. Swigart Scholarship for Higher Education, which provides BSCs and their families with the opportunity to pursue higher education. Each year, Spartan awards one student—who must be a BSCAI professional member or a family member of one—$3,000 for tuition and books. They hope this assistance can ease some of the financial barriers to higher education and make a difference for individual BSCAI members.
With over 60 years in the industry, Spartan Chemical knows BSCs and how to help drive their success.
