Carpet Care: Extractor Wand Makes A Difference

“There’s a lot more to a carpet extractor than just the machine itself,” says Matt Nelson of Excell Cleaning Supplies, a distributor of U.S. Products cleaning equipment, in Fort Meyers. Fla. “The wand plays a more crucial role than we ever knew before.”

This may come as news to many carpet cleaning professionals. After all, little has changed in wand technology for decades. Many technicians have come to think that wands are all the same.

However, Nelson says all of that changed when U.S. Products introduced the new Evolution wand.

“The first thing our customers notice is its appearance,” he says. “The Evolution has a sleek, crafted design that makes the cleaning technician look professional.”

Then carpet cleaners notice how light the Evolution is. This is because it has a rotationally molded head and aircraft aluminum tube, making it half the weight of a conventional stainless steel wand.

And because carpet cleaning is some of the most physically strenuous work in the cleaning industry, the lighter the wand, the less the stress and the more ergonomic. This all translates to increased worker productivity.

“Then they want to know how well the Evolution performs,” says Nelson. “And that’s when their eyes and ears really perk up.”

Through tested engineering, the Evolution “streamlines” airflow as it travels through the wand. In most wands, the airflow is turbulent, which reduces performance and requires more and more machine to improve performance.

But airflow in the Evolution is uniform. Called laminar airflow, this occurs when the air within the confined area of the wand moves with uniform velocity. The result: performance is more orderly and streamlined, improving the effectiveness of the extractor.

In fact, the Evolution makes such a difference in performance that U.S. Products’ extractors originally earning the Carpet and Rug Institute’s Bronze Seal of Approval now all have been elevated to Gold, the top certification for cleaning performance. The Evolution made the difference.
