Infection Control: Sickness Spreading Too Fast in Delaware Elementary School

Company Website

Delaware Springfield Public School officials say sickness was spreading too fast inside Delaware Elementary. The district decided to close the school for three days for a thorough, deep-cleaning.

Custodial Manager Rod Owen says his custodians used a disinfectant that has a 100 percent germ kill rate after "dwelling” on surfaces for approximately 10 minutes.

"It’s used in hospitals and clinics," Owen says. "We wiped every desk, chair, doorknob, sink and water fountain [with the disinfectant]."

As part of the cleaning process to restore health to the school, Owen also said his custodians employed a Kaivac no-touch cleaning system.

The Kaivac sprays on a disinfectant that is then washed off using a high pressure hose. Contaminants are then vacuumed-up using the machine’s built-in wet/vac system.

The school district believes closing the school, using a powerful disinfectant as well as the Kaivac machine should keep the students healthy this flu season.
