Challenge
Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island is a 294-bed community hospital serving the Blackstone Valley of Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts. With the main campus located in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Memorial Hospital provides primary and ambulatory care services at sites in Quality Hill, Plainville, Barrington and Central Falls. The facility employs over 1,600 medical staff and support staff members.

Memorial Hospital utilizes vinyl floors, new generation vinyl floors, and Armstrong slip resistant tiles. While the facility had experimented with a number of floor finishes over the years--including national brands, several private label products and some urethanes --no product was able stand up to the high demands inherent in this healthcare environment.

Memorial Hospital was in great need of a floor care system that could provide performance while maintaining the consistent shiny look that a hospital requires.

Solution
Pioneer Eclipse implemented a complete floor-care system for Memorial Hospital. Due to the sensitive and sterile environment that healthcare facilities must maintain, the EnviroStar Green FloorCare Program was the ideal choice. This program consisted of the EnviroStar Green Floor Coating, EnviroStar Green Floor Sealer, and EnviroStar Green Floor Maintainer.

The floor-care maintenance plan calls for cleaning and burnishing (with a battery-powered burnisher) on a daily basis. The maintainer is utilized once or twice each week, depending on the area of the hospital. Scrubbing and recoating is scheduled on an annual basis, typically in the Spring, with some high-traffic areas maintained more frequently.

Result
The EnviroStar Green FloorCare Program has been in place for 18 months at Memorial Hospital. While the EnviroStar Green Floor Stripper was purchased, it has yet to be used due to the floor finish’s superior performance.

Whenever the finish appears to lose its performance, the maintainer is applied, giving the floor an amazing look--as if it were new. The facility’s floor-care operators enjoy using the finish and maintainer because the products’ incredible response makes their jobs easier.
