A 20-year-old student at Western Washington University died last week from what Whatcom County health officials say was MRSA pneumonia, a rare staph infection. MRSA, or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, a resilient staph infection that is resistant to antibiotics, has seen a spike in incidence in recent months. MRSA pneumonia is rare but may also be on the increase, states the Seattle Post-Intelligencer article.
Cleaning professionals play a big role in preventing the spread of MRSA in facilities, particularly those in health care and institutional settings.
