HHI and NSF Form Educational Partnership

The Healthy House Institute (HHI) and NSF International (NSF) have formed a partnership to educate consumers about sustainability; food storage and handling; hygiene, cleaning, and handwashing; testing and certification of dietary supplements; and NSF Home Product Certification (HPC), which is based on, but separate from, NSF’s commercial foodservice equipment certification program.

NSF Home Product Certification (HPC) builds on NSF’s commercial expertise by helping ensure the safety and quality of home consumer products and appliances. Products are tested using home-use protocols at NSF’s laboratories, and include quality, performance, food contact, and other factors, explained the organization.

NSF International is an independent, not-for-profit 501(c)3 that develops national standards, and tests and certifies products that have the potential to impact public health.

While HHI supports the program — and its mission to helps consumers understand important criteria for certification — the organization does not endorse products or services.

The partnership excludes water treatment, bottled water, and drinking water, since HHI is working productively on these education areas with the Lisle IL-based Water Quality Association (WQA).
