The Nye County School District (NCSD), Nevada, solicited the help of two industry experts to help create proactive and cost-effective gym floor options. According to Pahrump Valley Community News, district officials are implementing annual maintenance, comprehensive training and ongoing support to ensure the newly resurfaced wood floors at several of the schools will maintain their quality and appearance for years to come.
Nate Cardinal, director of maintenance, operations, safety and security for the district, commented that adding annual screen and recoating will be enough to prolong stripping, sanding and recoating floors for at least 10 to 15 years.
According to reports, two vendor representatives helped lead the floor care effort: Rich Anderson from Tahoe Supply, and Colin McCown from Buckeye International. Tahoe provides all custodial and facility supplies across the district, while Buckeye supplies the sealing products and chemical systems used during the coating process. Both companies are "deeply involved in hands-on support and staff training."
This support doesn't stop at installation. Representatives provide free in-person training, annual education online, and ongoing access whenever needed.
The partnership is long-term, say reports, which is great news for NCSD as they experience substantial savings over time. Pahrump Valley Community News reports that stripping, sanding and refinishing the district's floors was approximately $101,000. Comparatively, the cost of supplies for the recoat this year was roughly $7,800.
