Waterless Urinals: Do Your Homework...Says The Commander

Company Website

When a large military operation in central California decided to determine if waterless urinals would work in their installation, they quickly realized they had to do some homework.

“At that time, there were only a couple of manufacturers of waterless urinals so it wasn’t that hard,” says the base commander in charge of the facility.  “Today, there are about five or six different manufacturers making them, so the consumer really has to do some market research.”

The commander was able to contact the Department of Forestry as well as some other military installations from around the country to share their experiences with waterless urinals.  “What I learned is that although they all work about the same, some can cost a lot more to maintain than others,” he says.

For example, one company often “gives” their no-water urinals to clients. However, as is typically the case, the offer can be just too good to be true.  “The cartridges on these ‘giveaways’ cost around $40 and have to be changed every couple of months,” says the commander.  “With the system we selected, the cartridges only cost $6 and last longer.  Now that is a big savings.”

The cost effective system he selected: waterless urinals from Waterless Co.

“If you have to change the cartridges four times in a year, that’s $24 with the Waterless system,” he says.  “But with those ‘free’ no-water urinals, you’re talking $160.  You’re really buying the urinals over and over again.”

This base commander has earned high marks by making well thought-out decisions.  “I am always conscious of how we use the taxpayers’ money,” he says.  “Selecting the Waterless system does the job and saves them money and that’s why I selected it.”
