The new Urban Plains Center in Fargo, North Dakota, seats 5,000 spectators and more than 188,000 people visited the arena in its first six months. Created to meet Fargo’s “need for ice,” it is the home of United States Hockey League’s Fargo Force, one of the top ice hockey teams in the country.
The facility is not only large, it is designed to be environmentally friendly as well. In fact, the developers are already seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
Some of the systems incorporated to make the facility more sustainable include geothermal heating, motion-sensing lighting, and waterless urinals from Waterless No-Flush urinals.
The Waterless system not only saves precious water, but the trap/cylinder is one of the longest-lasting, least expensive in the industry. In these tough economic times, this means the Urban Plains Center also saves another valuable resource: money.
