Waterless Urinal: Shopping Center Takes Green To A Whole Other Level
Sunway Pyramid in Malaysia is one of the largest malls in Asia. Opened in 1997, the complex has recently been remodeled at a cost of more than US$100 million.
Among the updates are a number of Green innovations, such as:
• Instead of driving around the giant parking lot looking for a parking space, parkers are notified where a spot opens up, saving time and gas.
• A BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag) program has been instituted, providing discounts to shoppers and stores that do away with plastic bags.
• Signs in restrooms read “When the trees disappear, so will the toilet paper” to encourage conservation efforts.
• Waterless urinals, manufactured by Waterless Co LLC, have been installed in all the men’s restrooms.
The waterless urinals are uniquely prized. Although Malaysia is considered a tropical country, it has ongoing problems providing enough fresh, potable water to meet its growing population.
