Restroom Care: Can a Cleaning Machine Change Student Behavior?

Company Website

Colorado’s District Twenty is considered one of the best school districts in the state. But when there is a ball game at one of the district’s two sports stadiums, the students can get a bit rowdy — and they sometimes take it out on the stadium restrooms.

Recently, because of growing concerns about the wear and tear and general appearance of the restrooms—and the need to do the job faster and more thoroughly — Bill Ringeman, the district’s supervisor of building modification and custodial services, started looking for a new cleaning system. At a trade show, he saw a demonstration of a KaiVac No-Touch Cleaning™ machine and was convinced it just might be what he needed for the stadium restrooms.

With the No-Touch system, a chemical injection system applies chemicals, Green or conventional, to all walls, floors, fixtures, and partitions to be cleaned. The same areas are then rinsed, blasting away deeply embedded dirt and soil with as much as 500 psi. Finally, only the Kaivac system includes a built-in wet/vac. This helps remove all moisture, soils, and contaminants and helps expedite drying time.

According to Ringeman, with the KaiVac machine, the stadium restrooms are much cleaner and healthier, and the work is done much faster. He also mentions that something very unusual — and unexpected — happened once they started using the KaiVacs.

“The student’s didn’t roughhouse the restrooms like they used to, especially at the stadiums,” he says. “Now they have respect for them, appreciate how clean they are, and they have much greater respect for our custodians as well. Nobody ever figured a cleaning machine could change student behavior — but the KaiVac can.”
