Paper Products: Green Bond Brings SCA Tissue, Philadelphia Eagles Together
SCA Tissue’s strong commitment to the environment scored a touchdown with the Philadelphia Eagles organization, which has switched to SCA’s Tork® brand for all of its towel, tissue, napkin and soap dispensing systems at Lincoln Financial Field.
The Philadelphia Eagles, a leader among professional sports teams in environmental initiatives, has made SCA Tissue the sole supplier of sanitary paper products at the stadium. More than one million people visit Lincoln Financial Field each year to attend Eagles' games, other sporting events and concerts.
SCA Tissue approached the Eagles organization last spring when it realized that the football team had such a strong commitment to the environment, a commitment both organizations share. The environmental record and practices of SCA Tissue matched up well with the environmental initiatives of the Eagles.
"The synergy of our own Go Green environmental program and the green practices of SCA make a powerful statement that we both are committed to championship performance on the field and in our communities,” says Joe Banner, Eagles president and COO.
SCA Tissue North America recently located its headquarters in Philadelphia's Cira Centre, joining SCA Americas, which moved there in 2006.
“Between the planting of our corporate roots in Philadelphia and the overlap in the environmental positions of the Eagles and SCA Tissue, it has turned out to be a great relationship between the two organizations,” says Don Lewis, SCA Tissue senior vice president, sales and marketing.”
Environmental issues played a major role in putting Tork into play at the stadium, Lewis said. Approval for every dispenser and product line had to meet the high environmental standards of top management in the Eagle’s organization before installation.
But hygiene, cost-in-use, style and functionality criteria also were critical, Lewis said, and Tork passed the test at every turn.
Leonard Bonacci, Eagles director of event services, says SCA Tissue and Tork products make a great match for his stadium’s needs.
“A modern stadium like Lincoln Financial Field presents a range of amenities and conditions, from luxury suites and clubs to high volume restrooms on the concourse levels,” Bonnacci says. “SCA products exceed our requirements for function, appearance and durability while providing us with the equipment and supplies that we need to service our entire facility.”
Lincoln Financial Field is now totally Tork and has more than 2,000 cost-saving, hygiene-promoting, eco-friendly sanitary paper dispensing systems, from hand towels to napkins.
Tork Xpressnap® dispensers, which feature one-at-a-time dispensing of 100-percent recycled Tork Xpressnap Natural napkins, are positioned on counters at all foodservice stands. The patented AD-a-Glance message panels on the dispensers carry the Eagle’s environmental program slogan “Go Green” and the team logo.
Stadium washrooms feature hands-free Tork Matic towel dispensing systems, Tork Xpress Brushed Aluminum hand towel and bath tissue dispensing systems, and Tork dispensing systems for bath tissue, soap and washroom seat covers. Suite boxes also have baskets of Tork multifold hand towels and boxes of Tork facial tissues.
The stadium’s switch to Tork has gone so well that the Eagles organization also has converted to Tork products at its corporate headquarters.
SCA Tissue was the first American paper company to earn EcoLogo certification for its products and has won numerous accolades for its sustainable business practices. Tork brand paper products in North America are made from 100-percent recycled fibers and Tork dispensing systems have a reputation for reducing usage and waste.
The Philadelphia Eagles organization also has a strong commitment to the environment and was the first team in professional sports to adopt responsibility for the environment and its role in the community. In 2003, the Eagles launched its Go Green campaign, which aims to better the environment and encourage sustainable business practices.
