Floor Care: California Greening...
For a major California university, Green cleaning is nothing new. The school has been adopting Green cleaning systems and purchasing environmentally responsible products for 20 years.
However, the university had yet to Green one cleaning task: floorcare. Although they were using Green-certified floorcare chemicals, the floor machines were outdated. School administrators researched the market for Greener floorcare equipment.
In compliance with new California laws, the administrators wanted equipment that used fewer chemicals. State law forbids cleaning professionals from pouring floorcare chemicals down drains. Instead, these chemicals must be placed in sealed containers and deposited at hazardous waste centers.
Although modern floor machines have made significant improvements, none appear to use less chemical compared to one new technology: cylindrical brush auto scrubbers developed by Tornado.
Because these systems use brushes and not rotary pads, they are able to penetrate deep into porous tile and grout to remove embedded contaminants. And, they can do it with less water and less chemical.
The school even uses these machines to dry-buff/clean floors, which removes soils that normally would require considerable water and chemicals.
Using cylindrical brush technology in 2008, this university takes another step in its Green evolution.
