Union Warns School Officials Over Job Cuts
According to reports in Canada's Edmonton Sun, the Alberta Union on Provincial Employees (AUPE) has warned the Edmonton Catholic Schools of misallocation of provincial funds earmarked for custodial services. The warning was given both verbally and in writing to school officials and board members.
With a looming deficit of $9.9 million over five years, AUPE hopes that the board wont try to recoup that money by cutting front-line employees, such as custodial staff.
According to reports, the board will cut the districts monthly budget by one percent a year for the next three years to get rid of the deficit.
AUPE represents roughly 400 custodial and maintenance staff working for Edmonton Catholic Schools.
