OSHA Sites Cleaning Contractor Following Employee Death
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sited Newton-based Unicco Service Co. $150,000 in connection with a June 8 incident that resulted in the injury and death of two employees. According to the Boston Globe, the accident occurred during window cleaning of a four-story building where both men fell about 50 feet to the ground. The two employees involved were found not to have the proper training on procedures, and safety equipment found on site was deemed defective by OSHA officials.
Unicco, who was sited for similar hazards following a double fatality in 2003, will have 15 business days to contest the fines.
