The Census Bureau found that the percentage of employment-based health insurance options dropped to 59.5 percent. Strange, since the cost of employer-sponsored health plans has been declining in recent years.
According to reports from CNNMoney.com, almost all firms with more than 100 employees offer health insurance, while only 34 percent of firms with less than 10 employees have coverage. Some industry experts feel this is due, in part, because the per-person premiums are much lower in large groups. Regardless, experts believe that there is no reason not to offer healthcare coverage.
Health plans are fully deductible as a business expense and any portion that the employer pays for his or her own coverage is tax deductible, according to the article. There are also options for coverage of major medical expenses.
