Hoteliers Growing Green Properties
The trend toward green has expanded to entire hotel chains, many of which are scheduled to open "green" properties in the coming months. According to Commercial Property News, hotels such as Starwood Capital, Starwood Hotels, InterContinental and Fairmont have environmentally friendly construction projects under way. These properties all adhere to the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards.
In years past, many building developers were hesitant to work towards green goals because of the added costs, but hotel owners are working around the added fees by taking advantage of the tax cuts and the return on investment they see from energy efficiency, increased worker productivity, etc.
A few green certified hotels opened in California last year, more and more hoteliers are seeking the benefits of green in their new construction.
