Green Cleaning in Government Buildings Mandatory in N.Y. County
Executives in Nassau County, N.Y., signed an order — effective in early 2007 — requiring all County facilities to incorporate "greening the cleaning," according to reports from The Northender. The order mandates that only non-toxic, green cleaning products can be used in the more than 800 County government buildings, in which 9,200 County employees work.
According to the article, "the products the County is using are the Greening the Cleaning brand developed by the Deirdre Imus Environmental Center for Pediatric Oncology." County officials comment that the purchase of these products will have little impact on the existing budget designated for cleaning supplies. In some cases, it is reported that the green cleaning products are less expensive than those currently being used.
