Government Cracks Down on the Hiring of Illegal Aliens
According to reports in The Intelligencer, legislation has emerged in the House of Representatives that would require employers to verify a worker's eligibility to work in the United States before hiring. It is expected that implementing this strategy effectively will limit the amount of illegal immigrants that cross the border, for fear that they will be caught.
In the past, small business owners who play by the rules and only hire legal workers find themselves at a cost disadvantage against those who break the law and offer illegal immigrants lower wages. This has been a concern for labor-intensive industries such as landscape maintenance and janitorial services for many years.
