Environmentalists Focus on Disney to Promote Green
As seen in the Orlando Business Journal.
Environmental activists say Walt Disney World needs to clean up its act when it comes to the entertainment giant's use of cleaning products.
The Center for Health, Environment and Justice said Friday it has begun a campaign to persuade The Walt Disney Co. to be "an environmentally responsible tourism-industry leader" by using "certified 'green' cleaning products and procedures."
A center spokeswoman says the company uses non-toxic cleaners in the Animal Kingdom park to protect animals, but has not switched to the same products in its other parks.
Disney says it believes all its products and methods are safe and comply with all environmental regulations.
The group's Web site (www.chej.org/disney/) uses the likenesses of Disney's characters to emphasize its argument. The campaign is designed to encourage consumers to contact Disney officials and ask that they change their policies.
