EFP Honored with CA's Top Environmental Award
Earth Friendly Products (EFP) has been recognized for its sustainability commitment that goes beyond its manufacturing, as it receives California's highest environmental honor, the Governor‚s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award (GEELA) in the category of Excellence in Sustainable Building Measures.
Earth Friendly Products was selected from over 100 nominees to receive the award based on the company‚s contributions in conserving California‚s resources, protecting the environment, strengthening California‚s economy, and the company‚s continued efforts towards zero waste and zero emissions.
Van Vlahakis, CEO of Earth Friendly Products accepted the award from Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger earlier this month at the Governors‚ Global Climate Summit 3 held in Sacramento, Calif. Earth Friendly Products was commended for its LEED-certified renovations to its Garden Grove, California facility, which is on-track to attain zero-waste by next year.
With the completion of the facility's renovations, it has reduced its carbon emissions by thousands of CO2 kg per month and generates 60% of its operating electricity from over 250 roof-mounted solar panels.
To meet the demand for its line of plant-based cleaning products, Earth Friendly Products has increased its payroll despite the economic downturn and considers employees its most important asset.
Earth Friendly Products also seeks out green suppliers and vendors that maintain sustainable business practices, conducting a thorough screening process for eco-friendly business practices before each new partnership is forged.
"We could not be more honored or more humbled by winning the GEELA," said Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks, vice president of Earth Friendly Products. "Our company strives to be 100% sustainable not for glory, but to conserve the environment for future generations. Every action that we take, from eliminating salt in our products to installing solar panels on our facilities‚ roofs to working towards becoming zero-waste manufacturer, is for the preservation of the earth. To us, receiving this award speaks to our accomplishments, as well as the growing demand from California and the entire nation for every company to be sustainable and eco-friendly."
