According to The Eagle-Tribune, members of the Haverhill Public School Custodial Association raised $1,000 for the American Red Cross by raffling state lottery scratch tickets for $2 apiece. Fred Simmons, president of the custodial association, said his group raises money each year for worthy causes, including scholarships. Teachers, administrators and custodians throughout the school system purchased many of the raffle tickets. A construction worker who is working on Haverhill High’s renovation project won the grand prize of $600 in scratch tickets.
