Custodial Staff Remains In-House
In spite if the overwhelming trend to outsource staff to save money, Chillicothe, Mo. shcool district executives decided to maintain management of the district’s custodial and maintenance staff, but will hire a part-time supervisor to oversee the department.
According to reports from Constitution-Tribune, Dr. Linda Gray Smith, superintendent, recommended the proposal, which calls for maintaining the current staff, with differentiated job responsibilities and pay, and hiring the part-time supervisor. She explained that the plan would result in a savings of $21,056.
The 2010-11 budget for custodial and maintenance totals $692,152. The district had received three proposals from interested outside contract companies for the work, however Smith said the district would benefit more from keeping the work “in house.”
The part-time supervisor, she noted, would be sought among current employees.
