Abacus Corp. announced that they will be laying off 100 janitorial workers as of July 31 after the loss the University of Maryland, Baltimore City, cleaning contract. According to the Baltimore Business Journal, Abacus lost the five-year 60-building contract to Atlanta-based OneSource Facility Services. OneSource anticipates the hire of 120 employees to accommodate the new contract.
Abacus employs about 1,500 workers in Maryland and 3,500 nationwide. A spokesman for the company says that they will discuss where to relocate the workers after the university contract expires.
