Central Arizona College (CAC) is currently accepting proposals from cleaning contractors who are interested in maintaining the Signal Peak Campus, Casa Grande Center and Florence Center. The contract would not affect the jobs of the custodial staff at either the Aravaipa or Superstition Mountain campuses, according to reports from TriValleyCentral.com.

According to Susan Shaw, CAC’s vice president for college services, the decision to replace 18 in-house custodians with an outsourced company is only being considered. “We are just exploring our options to see if we want to look further,” she says. “It is [just] as likely that [the] service will remain in-house as [it is for it to] be outsourced.”

The decision to consider outsourcing the one campus is a result of low staffing levels and high turnover, according to Shaw. Although the campus is currently at full staff, it hasn’t remained steady for the last two years.

In an effort to protect their current employees, Shaw comments that the contract with prospective custodial companies requires them to present CAC employees the first opportunity for full-time employment and guarantee full-time employment for six months unless separated for cause.
