The Service Employees International Union in Hollywood, Calif. awarded "Golden Broom" awards to recognize studios that employ large custodial staffs, pay a fair wage, and take responsibility for the hard-working janitors that clean their facilities. According to reports from NBC4.TV, there are about 300 janitors in Hollywood who are represented by union contracts, while roughly 400 work for nonunion janitorial services.

Nominees for the best studios are Sony, DreamWorks, Warner Bros. and Paramount.

Also recognized by the Golden Broom awards will be those for the worst workplace award. Nominees for this award include NBC Universal and Warner Music Group. The janitors in these facilities are not represented by the union, receive "poverty wages" and don’t receive health insurance.
