Floor Care: Hospital Selects "World Class" Floor Machine

Company Website

Before selecting a new piece of equipment such as an auto scrubber, a New England hospital follows an extensive process that includes investigating and testing several brands including an environmental checklist. Then selected machines are tested in the hospital under "real life" conditions.

"It's usually this final step that helps us make our decision," says a member of the hospital's custodial department. "Putting the machine to work and seeing how it performs is what really matters."

Recently, after about six weeks of investigation, the hospital selected the ride-on, BR 28/30, one of Tornado's new World Class cylindrical auto scrubbers with a 28-inch cleaning path and 30-gallon solution tank.

Since the ride-on BR 28/30 is a cylindrical brush floor machine, it has four to six times more contact pressure than a rotary machine and can effectively deep-clean porous tile and grout areas.

Also, the cylindrical brushes rotate inward, which prevents "slurry" from getting on walls, at about 1,300 rpms.

Cylindrical machines are also Greener than most rotary machines.  They tend to use less water and chemical, and one set of brushes lasts longer than 100 rotary pads. This significantly reduces the amount of janitorial equipment ending up in community landfills.
