Hawaii Governor Considering Vetoing Green Legislation
Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle has stated her intention to veto House Bill 1538 which would mandate all public schools to purchase and use cleaning and maintenance products approved by Green Seal, if economically feasible.
Lingle explains she is considering vetoing the bill because it “requires the Department of Education (DOE) to give first preference to the purchase of environmentally-sensitive cleaning products with the Green Seal label, which could limit the types of disinfectants used in public schools to protect human health. In addition, this bill could increase DOE’s costs for cleaning and maintenance.”
