What Does It Mean To Be "Born Green"®?
Atlas Paper Mills is determined to build on their core vision - creating products that help protect the environment. Atlas is one such company having a positive effect on today's environment by providing environmentally-friendly product solutions to customers without the premium price often associated with environmentally preferable-products. This is the concept behind the Green Heritage™, Green Seal™ certified brand. Atlas Paper Mills was truly "born green"®, and is the only 100-percent Green Seal certified-manufacturer of recycled tissue and towel products in the State of Florida. In our 28 year history, Atlas has saved 18 million trees by never having to cut down a single tree to create our environmentally-friendly tissue and towel products.
How Does Atlas Build a Better World?
Obtaining the environmental mark from Green Seal has helped Atlas make significant sustainable achievements to ensure that there is an even stronger level of quality control that goes into making our products. The Green Seal has effected change in the chemicals and formulations of our products used in the manufacturing process which has resulted in cleaner, healthier and better performing products. Green Seal helps to improve the environment by reducing toxic pollution and waste, conserving resources and habitats, minimizing global warming and ozone depletion, increasing health and well-being. It also demonstrates to various business segments that environmentally responsible products can improve quality and boost profitability.
LEED®ing by Example
Atlas' Green Heritage line of Green Seal certified items are extremely valuable to companies who want to enhance their commitment to the environment. By using Atlas products, organizations such as hospitals, hotels, offices and municipalities can obtain The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) credits. LEED® is an internationally recognized third-party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Obtaining LEED® credits is important for many facility managers and operators to help implement green building practices through different maintenance solutions such as environmentally friendly paper products. The other benefit of LEED® is that greener buildings are more efficient to run, operate and are also healthier for their occupants.
Rooted in a Green Heritage.
Atlas is deeply committed to its root philosophy - allowing customers who want to enhance their commitment to the environment and achieve their organizational goals the opportunity to do so by using products that are good for the environment without having to pay a premium price. For manufacturing companies it can be a difficult job to provide customers with everything they are looking for in a product without short-changing them when it comes to good service, product education and delivery. For Atlas, the Green Heritage brand offers competitive prices while continuing to provide all the other benefits expected from a branded product.
Sustainability will not be going away anytime in the near future. Instead, it will likely become an even larger global and corporate initiative, which will ultimately give rise to new legislative control and change the corporate foundations for many companies. Companies have the power to make a difference and no matter how small the change - it can have an enormous impact on not only the world around us, but our bottom line as well. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Respect.
At Atlas, we believe that the true value of a company is reflected in a three-part process: being a leader, making a difference in the world around you, and serving as an example to the community. Atlas has heightened their environmental efforts by recently planting 25,000 longleaf pine trees in three Florida State Forests: Indian Lake, Seminole and Cary. Atlas worked with the Friends of Florida State Forests to plant trees in specific forests and is very proud of our partnership with Florida's Division of Forestry and the Friends of Florida State Forests.
How Important is Atlas' Role for the Environment?
Atlas has evolved into a leading, cost-effective U.S. manufacturer of recycled tissue and paper products, and we are widely recognized for our efforts to preserve the environment. Atlas has continued to be a sustainable company since our beginning. It is not just the recycled paper that Atlas makes, but the Eco-manufacturing processes and procedures it goes through to create it that helps shield the environment, which has allowed us to become an innovative and sustainable leader in the paper industry. Even the by-product of our de-inking and de-fibering process, AgFiber, an agricultural lime substitute is used in sustainable farming initiatives throughout the State of Florida to increase crop production. Additionally, Atlas is working with the University of Miami to monitor electricity consumption so we can provide alternatives to help reduce overall electricity usage, cost, and help maximize efficiencies to reduce our carbon footprint.
There are still companies like Atlas, who live by their roots, and are dedicated to making a positive impact on the environment and continue to help others do the same by creating environmentally-friendly and sustainable, good quality products at affordable prices. Atlas Paper Mills is still dedicated to creating products that are safe for the environment and its customers and that are essential to sustain us for the next evolution of change.
Atlas is dedicated to creating a more sustainable world, protecting the environment, and providing products that help exert a positive effect on the world. Atlas was truly "Born Green®" and has saved 18 million trees over our 28 year history. By using only recycled wastepaper, we save 19,000 gallons of oil and 150,000 cubic yards of landfill space each year, and reduce 100 million pounds of paper from the waste stream annually by recycling the paper in our mill. Additionally, Atlas saves 230 million gallons of water each year by reclaiming the water in our manufacturing operations. At Atlas, we always try to remind people that "We Haven't Gone Green. We Were Born Green."®
