Sizing Up Outdoor Waste/Recycling Receptacles

When purchasing waste or recycling receptacles, consider what people are dumping and then determine which size container best fits the needs of the facility. More often than not, too large of a receptacle causes more problems than it solves.
Some might assume that a large container will minimize the emptying frequency, but departments might also find building occupants bringing in trash from home or cleaning out their cars. People often take advantage of what is available and large amounts of trash can result in lingering odors. They might not be inclined to do this if only small bins are available.
That said, a can that is too small might quickly become an eyesore. If receptacles overflow because housekeepers cannot empty them often enough, people will avoid using them. The result is that the facility exterior may soon look unkempt.
