Many States Require Green Products

In many states green cleaning is not a choice but a requirement. Across the country, individual states are passing their own laws mandating green cleaning in schools and government facilities. Building service contractors, in-house cleaning professionals and jan/san distributors need to be aware of these requirements to ensure they are using or selling the proper products.
As of December 31, 2010, nine states have passed legislation requiring the purchase and use of green products. New York, Illinois, Connecticut, Maryland, Hawaii, Nevada and Iowa require green cleaning in K-12 schools.
In addition, Illinois and Iowa, along with Vermont and New Jersey require green products in state government buildings.
Required products vary by state, but most bills cite specific criteria for chemicals, floor care products, soaps and paper.
End users and suppliers should also note that many additional states have their own recommendations in place for green cleaning products.
